This policy has been jointly developed and
agreed upon by the staff of Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School and parents of
our students pursuant to Title I.
Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School will
convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time for parents, to evaluate this
policy. This meeting will be held during the morning and afternoon of September
The School’s Parent Involvement Policy, developed
by staff and parents, will be distributed in an understandable and uniform
format and to the extent practicable, in a language parents can
understand. The parent involvement
policy will also be made available to the community.
Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School will
involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in the planning,
review, and improvement of Title I programs, school improvement plan and parent
involvement policy. The school will
offer bi-monthly parent forums for parents/guardians to participate in and
The Educational Involvement Accords will be
sent home the first day each child attends in the school year. Additional copies will be sent home to
students who have not returned a signed copy of the Accord. For parents new to the school, the Accords
will be included in the initial registration packet.
Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School, in order
to build the school’s capacity for strong performance will:
·Provide our parents with a copy of Partners
for Achievement each trimester to assist parents in understanding the Nevada
Academic Content Standards (NVACS). This
information will also be available on our website.
·Provide our parents with ongoing,
current data that shows their child’s academic progress towards each standard
of the Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS).
·Provide our parents with training on
both Standards Based Assessments, Standard based Report Cards, School Performance Framework, and Growth Model
·Train our parents to monitor their
child’s progress through progress reports that will be sent home every three
weeks and nightly homework. Progress
Reports will clearly state which level their child is performing for each standard
being taught and assessed. Parent
evaluations and suggestion sheets are completed at each parent activity held at
the school. Evaluations and suggestions
are used to develop topics and provide needed resources for future meetings.
·Provide our parents with strategies on
how to work with our staff to enhance their child’s education experience,
through volunteering in the school, communicating with their child’s teacher,
and through working with their child at home.
Volunteer pamphlets have been created, as well as, a checklist for
parents to choose a variety of activities that they feel comfortable with. Training for various tasks will be provided
by members of the staff.
Family Nights will be held throughout the
year; focusing on all academic areas.
Information, as well as, hands-on activities will be provided to the
parents so that they may work with their child at home.
The administration will, with the assistance
of parents, encourage teachers to foster parent involvement and improve
staff/parent communication in an effort to create an equal partnership.
Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary School, to the
extent feasible and appropriate, coordinates, and integrates parent involvement
programs and activities with various community resources.
The Louis Wiener, Jr. PTA provides free and
low cost activities fostering community involvement.
The Community Based Preschool and KIDS
programs provide trainings and activities for students and parents one Friday
The school community partners this year include
St. Rose San Martin, Applebee’s, Target, and Horace Mann.
Louis Wiener, Jr. Elementary is working with
Safe Nest to help students in grades 1, 3, and 5 to learn about and deal with
anger management issues. The school has
scheduled times for the Child Assault Prevention Program to teach the students
in grades 1, 2, and 4 to learn about staying safe and reporting dangers.
Teachers are provided with Bullying activities
and supplies at the beginning of the year.
Students in grades 1 through 5 will attend Doc Dixon Assemblies to learn
about bullying and what to do when they or someone they know is being
Through classroom counseling lessons, the
students have learned about Kelso’s choices and how to work together.
The teachers and staff recognize “Bucket
Fillers”, those students that do things to help build each other up through
help and encouragement.
The school is actively involved in the Josh
Stevens’ Foundation by creating a “Be Kind” atmosphere, and publicly recognizes
students who have gone above and beyond to help one another during the monthly
