About the Louisville Host Committee
The Louisville Host Committee (LHC) was originally formed to allow the city of Louisville to enter the rotation for hosting the annual KY State Convention. At that time, the LHC met every 3 years. Due to this rotation, the committee started anew for each KY State Convention held in Louisville.
In 1992, the Falls City Convention, an annual Louisville based convention, was started to help keep the LHC meeting continuously. Therefore the LHC met more frequently until they settled on meeting monthly as it is still done today.
The LHC currently meets the second Sunday of each month at 5:00 pm EST, at the Care Center 3711 Bells Lane, Louisville, KY 40211 (handicap accessible).
The LHC continues to use the AA Guidelines for conventions, conferences and roundups and By-Laws were written specifically for the LHC. The spirit of rotation became apparent, therefore all chairman positions are held for only 3 years and the co-chair to rotates in as chairman. This policy is still followed today. The LHC also has an Al-anon and Alateen chairman.
Today, as in the past, the LHC is self-supporting solely with the finances generated by the registrations. Making the AA, Al-anon and Alateen fellowship aware of the Fall City Convention and the KY State Convention is imperative. The LHC members achieve this by handing out flyers, placing posters in Club houses, and making announcements at AA, Al-anon and Alateen meetings including the Quarterly, IGR and Area Assembly.
The LHC is not all business—-laughter can be heard at meetings, fellowship before and after the LHC meetings and friendships are started. If you are interested in joining the Louisville Host Committee please come and bring a friend…..we always welcome new members. Or if you only want to be a volunteer at the actual conventions, please contact us.
The LHC’s primary purpose has been and will always be the spirit of recovery – one alcoholic helping another alcoholic.
