Jim MacManus, Lafayette Chess Club President, August 29, 2015

James Patrick MacManus, 68, died on Saturday, August 29, 2015.   

James Patrick MacManus was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and made Lafayette his home for over 40 years. He was a practicing attorney for over 30 years, until his death. Mr. MacManus loved playing poker, was an avid pool player but his passion in life was playing chess. He was director of the Lafayette Chess Club for many years and enjoyed playing chess with his buddies on Friday nights.  James was a powerful voice in Louisiana Chess, organizing and directing countless state-level tournaments, for many decades.  Mr. MacManus will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.    

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Roxanne MacManus; his mother, Maree Esther Cizmas MacManus; his fiancée, Barbara Rusich; one brother, Mike MacManus; two half sisters, Julie Rowe and Virginia Almendarez; and two half brothers, Steve Smith and David Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Lester MacManus.
