President’s Notes

We had terrific participation from LEA Members at the recent Virginia Education Association Delegate Assembly in Roanoke (see below).

LCPS budget season is coming to a close. After reconciliation, the School Board and Administration intends to have a final adopted budget by the end of April. The School Board needs to adjust the proposed budget to reconcile 5.5 million dollars which was underfunded by the Loudoun Board of Supervisors. While some Supervisors are quick to point out the budget was 99.3% funded, I want you to understand the budget is a needs based budget and not a wish list from LCPS. Please be sure to keep your community aware of past underfunding and the true needs of our students. These are important conversations.

Now is the time of year most educators begin to think about summer plans. Keep your eye out for amusement park discounts and VEA professional development opportunities in upcoming communications.

I hope you had time to recharge during Spring Break and enjoy the last quarter of the school year.

In solidarity,

David Palanzi, President
Loudoun Education Association
LaToya & Dave

Budget Update

A tax rate of $1.125 was adopted. This move by the Loudoun Board of Supervisors lowers the tax rate by 2¢. This underfunds the LCPS Proposed Budget by $5.5 million. The School Board will reconcile the budget for adoption on Monday, April 24th.
