Community Choirs Festival 24th March 2012

This is an annual event with choirs participating from across the country. This year there were 16 choirs including Loudmouth Women, all with their own distinct style. In the morning and during the first part of the afternoon all the choirs came together into one massive choir to learn some new tunes. This experience was both fun and emotional, as for many of us singing with such a large number of people is an unusual event. This year the workshop leaders were:
And we sang:
  • Let's Twist Again - Mann & Appell - arranged by Bruce Knight
  • Fa'afetai l le Atua - Samoan - Lyrics Legal Tapu - arranged by Tony Backhouse
  • Carnival - Roger Jackson
  • Mfebana - South African Zulu
  • My Home is Far Away - South African in English and Tswana From John Mosiro
Loudmouth Women were out in force, it appears like we have built up quite a reputation over the years, people in particular remembered our Do Ron Ron performance last year. This year we busked a selection of our favourites to an appreciative audience in the warm midday sun and at the end of the day took part in the end of event concert, which all the choirs participate in.

The tune that we chose this year was Ngi Hamba Ngedwa popularised by Dorothy Masuka - which we fondly call Joburg.

We were the penultimate choir to take to the stage, which kept us on our toes. Like last year the performance and our outfits were well received.  We all really enjoyed the day, in particular performing to all those people, and we showed our appreciation by singing into the glorious sunset on the coach going home.

This is the video of our performance:
