Update (as of 31 Aug 2020)

The club is now almost 3 1/2 years old. When we first started the club we had a lot of carpools to out of town events. We went to museums, car shows, farmers markets, side walk chalk paintings, and Big Band Riptide Senior Dances. (17 total) Then we had our first live concert with dancing, potluck & raffle. Bobby Ray sang Classic Western songs. Since then we have had 32 more dances with live bands & singing. Including Thanksgiving diners, Christmas parties, table game nights, card game nights, anniversary parties, and holiday potlucks. We also had a FREE BBQ for the community. And two Space Expo / Museums fundraisers for our club. We have had lots of other fundraiser, especially bake sales.

What's in the future. When the pandemic is over and it is safe for seniors with compromised immune systems to have a gathering of 50 people, then we will start having our dances with live bands again. (Hopefully soon)
Until then we would like to continue to raise funds. We would like to open up a thrift store with a disaster / hard times relief closet, operated by young strong healthy people. We have the inventory, we have some volunteers, all we need is a building, we could use for a few months for free, until we can make enough money to pay rent. Please help us find a building we could use.

We've had a lot of " FUN " in the past. We hope to have a lot of " FUN " in the future.
Please support us by joining our facebook group. By helping us raise money. And helping us find a building for our thrift store.  We are having a Gift Basket Fundraiser, Please help us make gift baskets, sell them, or  by buying one. ($10) (We are going to use shopping tote bags, with our logos on it, instead of baskets.)
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1849730281942801/

(flyer to go with the shopping tote bags)

Please take a shopping tote bag, purchase 10 inexpensive gifts, and put them in the bag. (an inexpensive gift can be just about anything that is non-perishable)

We plan to sell the filled bags to the general public for $10 to raise money for the Lompoc Senior's Club, Thrift Store & Disaster Relief.

After you're done, return the filled bag to the person that handed it to you.

Update (as of 10 Sept 2019)
The club is almost 2 1/2 years old now.
We have been a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization since Jan 2018. That's when we became part of Lompoc Valley Park, Recreation & Pool Foundation. The Lompoc Valley Parks, Recreation & Pool Foundation’s IRS identification #26-2948190 and the DLN # 1705320438200 are effective as of August 5, 2008.
We have not had very many carpool events lately. But we did go to Orcutt, Santa Maria, Buelletin, and Santa Barbara. We went to the Dances in Santa Maria several times. (17 in all carpools.) I would like to go to Santa Barbara again soon.
We have had 21 entertainment events. Just recently we had a table game night and a poker / card game night. In August we had a Senior Dance, with Jazz Band, potluck, and raffle. In Sept we are having a Senior Dance, with Jazz, R&B, Motown, & Oldies Band, potluck, and raffle. All these event cost a lot of money. We have to pay the entertainers from $0 to $500. We have to pay rent from $0 to $330. We have to buy party supplies which cost about $1.00 per person. And decorations. And food, drink & coffee. Also we have to buy business cards, print flyers and posters. Posters for an event cost about $100 to $125. Also we have to pay yearly dues of $500. We do not have any paid employees, we are all volunteers.
We have fundraiser, bake sales, restaurant fundraiser, online antiques & collectibles, purchase on line to donate, etc. So far the bake sales have been the best way to raise money. We have had some people bake for us and make gift baskets to sell and one lady bake a lot of stuff for us, but mostly we sell baked items from Costco. We spend about $350 a month on baked items from Costco and after everything is sold we clear about $500. It takes several days to sell everything. It's a lot of work, but many people give donations, so it encouraging. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2086824398199803/
We also try to get grants, a few companies gave us $100. Walmart has given us about $1300, and the San Luis Obispo County Foundation just gave us $3000 to pay musician at our senior dances.
We have had An Annual Space Symposium Fundraiser. We are having another one in Sep 2019. If all goes as planed we could raise about $11,000. But I think it is going to take some years before we raise that much money each year.
We have an endowment fund for anyone who wants to donate part of their estate to the Lompoc Senior's Club when they pass away. The interest from the endowment fund will be used to pay for our monthly expenses after the endowment fund grows to 5,000,000.
We hope to open up a thrift store with a senior lounge, medical equipment lending closet and a disaster / hard times relief closet. But we need either 2 months free rent or $4000 to $6000. I applied for some grants but was turned down. Maybe in the fall we will be able to get some grants.
I've been running the senior club for almost 2 1/2 years. I would like to find a president and a vice president to replace me. Please volunteer.

Hello From Lompoc Senior's Club  (as approx. Aug 2017)

I just wanted to give you a progress report.

1) We now have 11 volunteer board members. I would like to have one more. I believe getting our 10 board members and the $500 to pay for becoming a non-profit organization is our highest priority. We now have $427, we need $73 more.
Once we become a non-profit organization we will have no trouble having lots of fundraisers. And have the money, which we need, to have more entertainment at the Dick Dewess Senior Center.

2) Soon we will have our first board meeting. I'm hoping to make arrangements soon.

3) We are having a fundraiser on the 17th of Sept, Family Portraits, at the Dick Dewees senior center. RSVP by 16 Aug 2017.
(If anyone wants to make a donation before then, that would be helpful, in order to become a non-profit organization ASAP.)

4) I went to Santa Maria a while back and checked out all the museums, we plan to go to on our next car pool excursion. I also checked out the Mexican restaurant. Everything looked good. We should have a good time on our 2nd car pool excursion on 12 Aug 2017. Please join us. Be sure to RSVP by 4 Aug 2017.

5) I'm getting another 1000 business cards to hand out. If anyone wants to help me hand them out, let me know.

6) Visit our "Purchase to Donate" page, and consider purchasing something online.

8) Let your friends know about our club, have them email me, so I can send them a newsletter. Have them join our Facebook group.

Hello Fellow Seniors  (Lompoc Senior's Club)

I just wanted to give you a progress report.

1)  We now have 7 volunteer board members.  We need 3 to 5 more.  I believe getting our 10 board members and the $500 to pay for becoming a non-profit organization is our highest priority.  Once we become a non-profit organization we will have no trouble having lots of fundraisers.  And have the money, which we need to have more entertainment at the Dick Dewess Senior Center.

2)  We are having our first fundraiser on the 21st of June at Applebee's.

3)  I went to Old Orcutt to see if it would be a good place for our first car pool excursion.  I found a garden center & gift shop and an antique store that were nice to look around in.  Also I found a few restaurants it would be nice to have lunch at.  Also I found an ice cream parlor  it would be nice to have desert in.  Someone suggested that Jake's would be a good place to eat lunch.  And that Stone Cold Ice Cream Parlor would be a good place to go.  Anyway I thought perhaps it would be a good "practice"  "experimental"  car pool excursion.  Perhaps after our first fundraiser we will try our first car pool excursion.

4)  I just updated: Page 2, June 2017 Schedule of Events.  I hope you go to our website and use the Schedule of Events.

5)  I got another 1000 business cards to hand out.  If anyone wants to help me hand them out let me know.

6)  I joined the Chamber of commerce, hopefully that will help mor people find out about our club.  They have an email newsletter, that hopefully will advertise our fundraiser.

Come join our Facebook group:  Lompoc Senior Club

Let you friends know about our club, have them email me, so I can send them a newsletter.  Have them join our Facebook group.

Thank You Very Much
David Tekaat

The Lompoc Senior's Club needs a small tandem enclosed trailer, approx. 16 feet long.  It must fit into a parking space at the senior center.  It will be used to store party supplies in.  Contact Dave, 661-333-7746, if you have any information on one available. (Leave Message)
