I have close to 30 years’ experience in media and communications. As a school leaver I entered into the world of advertising in Johannesburg, finally discharging myself from the corporate world in 2000, after 5 years as the CEO of Media Initiative East Africa, in Nairobi.

During my 20 years in advertising in South Africa, Australia and Kenya I immersed myself in unravelling media research, negotiating with media owners, and working with marketing/ brand managers and directors of large corporate companies. I learnt the discipline attached to the consumer industry, and the rigid parameters expected from these co-operative partnerships. I watched the media world change dramatically in both South Africa and Kenya.

In 2000 I returned to South Africa from Kenya. I welcomed a hiatus from the stifling corporate world and embraced a 360 degree change to life in the bush in Zululand. We bought a large tract of land and developed a four star lodge. Coupled with this we ran a game sanctuary and during our 5 year tenure we worked closely with the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, releasing over 400 animals back into the wild. We firmly believed in responsible tourism and I started the Milimani Educational Trust, offering a platform to expose our lodge guests to the surrounding communities. My husband passed away in 2005, and despite not owning Milimani Game Sanctuary any longer, the Trust continues operation. It’s a real ‘Fishes and Five Loaves’ project but remains effective, as we feed over 100 ldren in 3 creches daily, provide stationery and sponsor teacher training through Adeline Training Solutions.

For seven years I was a contributing writer for a lifestyle magazine in Durban, called The Ridge. This experience enabled me to network with people who have positively contributed to our community. I have interviewed and researched many varied topics from drug abuse, humanitarian issues, lifestyle and décor. To date I have published over 200 articles.

I am a registered member of SAFREA (South African Freelance Association), and currently serve on the KZN committee.

Blogging has become a way of life for many writers, and I too have dabbled in the murky waters of the internet. More about this: https://sites.google.com/site/loiskuhle/blogs

I am blessed to have found happiness in a wonderful relationship back in Zululand - lucky me - I spend half my time in the sanctity of the bush, and the other half in the madness of the city of Durban.
