Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees of the ISSC 2018: Logics of Image - Visual Learning, Logic and Philosophy of Form in East and West, to be held in Kolymbari, Crete in 2018, 11-18 August, I would like to convey my appreciation for the confidence that scholars from many parts of the world have placed in our team.

This Conference has adopted topics of special interest and different understanding in East and West. This presents the opportunity for casting a comparative light on a form of major importance during all periods of human civilization, namely: the significance of image, vision, visuality, visualisation in learning, cognition, logic and philosophy of form in East and West. Questions surrounding this issue are likely to interest the scholars of most diverse fields of research, education, as well as a variety of social actors. 

Kolymbari is coastal town at the southern end of the Rodopou peninsula, located about 22 km from Chania town, 30 km from the airport and 26km from the Souda portNear the town is located the historic Gonia Monastery (known also as Monastery of Our Lady of Gonia or Monastery of Panagia Hodegetria). It has an important collection of precious post-Byzantine icons, relics, and other rare religious treasures. 

I hope the high standards of this conference will convince you to come to the ISSC 2018 Congress, where you will be able to enjoy many aspects of Cretan culture.

The venue for ISSC 2018 will be the premises of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, Kolymbari, Crete, 11-18 August 2018. 

This year, the Orthodox Academy of Crete celebrates, its 50th Anniversary, and continues its activity in promoting the dialogue between faith, science and culture, inspired by the Platonic tradition of συμφιλοσοφεῖν (symphilosophein - philosophising together), and the support of human rights and dignity. In recognition of its great contribution to the international saliency of Orthodoxy, Peace, Dialogue and Cooperation of Religions, as well as to the society in general, the Orthodox Academy of Crete has been awarded the Silver Medal of the Academy of Athens on December 21st, 2017.
