About Me

Biography

Shayla Heavner is a native New Mexican. Shayla and her husband of 11 years, Jeremy, have 4 children. Since a young age, Shayla has had a propensity for mathematics and teaching. While attending the Albuquerque Academy, although already in advanced math, she worked over the summer to advance an additional grade level. In her junior year, she began taking college mathematics courses at the University of New Mexico. Shayla began her tutoring journey at a young age, helping fellow high school students at both the Academy and La Cueva. Upon graduation, Shayla continued her education earning an Associates in Mathematics at Central New Mexico Community College and then continuing to earn her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics at Indiana University where she was on the Chancellor's list every semester of attendance. Much of her education has been online, so she has a unique understanding of how to excel in both the traditional and distance classrooms. Currently, Shayla is working towards her Masters in Education with a focus on technology at Johns Hopkins University. She is a homeschool parent and teacher, as well as a Teaching Assistant for upper mathematics courses and a tutor in the Mathematics Support Center at Indiana University. In her free time she enjoys family outings, loves the outdoors and has recently taken up crocheting as a hobby.

Why Logical Learning?

Logical Learning is a different kind of tutoring. We offer face-to-face instruction for local residents as well as online instruction for all. Unlike many other platforms like Tutor.com or Varsity Tutors, with us you will receive a personalized instruction plan and work with the same tutor each session. This differs from getting a question answered and transforms into complete comprehension and confidence in a subject. For more on virtual tutoring see my blog post here.
