Meet Our Instructors

           
           

Janet Loftus Martin has been the owner and operator of Loftmar Stables since it was built in 1984. Jan grew up in Bowie and has ridden, owned and trained horses since she was 10 years old. She competed for others on their horses & ponies, both locally & at rated shows. Jan graduated from Southern Sem majoring in Animal Science and Equine Studies/Equitation. As an adult she showed Loftmar’s Tuxedo at both local and rated Dressage and Hunter shows. In 1993, Jan received her CHA Master Instructor certification for riding and teaching through the advanced level in both English and Western. Jan is involved in many horse related programs and organizations helping to promote horse safety, education and sportsmanship. She served as president of the MSA, held several offices in the NCEL and also managed a MHSA rated show series. Jan’s husband, Raul, you may have seen at the shows in the Western division. You also may have seen their girls, Christina, Kasey, and Jenifer competing and winning on their ponies & horses over the years.

 Jenifer Martin Sherlock has an extensive background showing in the hunters, & equitation. While attending Centenary College in NJ as an Equine Studies major she competed and qualified for the IHSA Finals as well as competing at many local & top A rated shows over the years. Jen is a CHA certified instructor. Her extensive background and sweet personality makes her a wonderful person to learn from. In addition to her normal coaching in MD and NJ, Jen coached our NCAEL team & our Spalding High School team which she started over 10 years ago. 

 Amanda Takacs rode growing up in New Jersey. She attended Virginia Intermont College where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Equine Science as well as a minor in Business Administration in 2007. She was on the IHSA intercollegiate riding team all four years in college. Amanda is also a certified instructor through ARIA. Amanda taught in NJ & PA and before she came to Loftmar, she was the barn manager at Goucher College in Baltimore MD as well as taught and coached students there. She has coached Loftmar’s Spalding, Adult and Short Stirrup teams to many wins as well as our students that show in both the local and rated show rings. Her students truly enjoy her because of her upbeat, positive teaching style. You can see her in the ring showing her Irish Sport Horse “My Irish Dream”

Erin Cardea rode, showed and worked at Loftmar growing up. She participated on Loftmar’s NCEL teams. Erin left us to go to college. Upon graduating William Woods University, with a BS in Equine Science she went to work for 5 Time Olympic Show Jumper Anne Kursiniski. After, Erin opened her own facility in Nebraska which was very similar to Loftmar. While there she coached the University of Nebraska’s IHSA team and competing throughout the Midwest at A shows herself and with students. Erin is a CHA Master Instructor and working on 2 other equine masters degrees.In May will complete BHS instructor certification You may be fortunate to ride her horse she donated to Loftmar, “Loftmar’s Tall Dark & Handsome” I know each of you will enjoy learning from her knowledgeable, laid back positive teaching style dedicated to both horse and rider.
