Pinch hitter Cantor David Young steps up to the bimah to deliver a funny, witty and insightful d'var Torah...
and the Lodzer Congregation goes wild!
Whatever you want to be, _____
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DREAM

(Sweet dreams.)
Lodzer
Marty and I will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on December 29. It’s hard to believe! Half a century! We were really just kids when we got married on Sunday_December_29_1968.

There was a blizzard that day and many of our guests from out of town could not make it to our wedding. Even our local guests had enough trouble driving to “The New Murray House” on Steeles west of Bathurst.

Not only was December 29 our wedding day, but it was also my birthday! (At the time, I thought it was a good idea; since then, I changed my mind.) Originally, Marty and I had not planned to have a winter wedding; we had planned to get married the following August 2. However, when I got a teaching job at Bathurst Heights Secondary School, we both felt it was unnecessary to have to wait until the summer. I could support Marty, who was still a student at The College of Dentistry.

We chose to have our alternate wedding date in December during the Christmas holiday break. However, because it was short notice, many of the synagogues were already booked. My mother did the phoning and found out that The “New” Murray House, a Jewish kosher facility, had three wedding chapels and one was available on short notice.

In this photo, Marty and I were facing north towards fields and farmlands. There was nothing in sight, no apartments, shopping malls, stores or any buildings...just a flat snowy landscape. The thought crossed my mind that it might be a good idea to buy a piece of land on the north side of Steeles, but sadly we had no money to our name at the time...but don’t we look happy in this wedding photo?

(Since many of our Lodzer friends will be out of town this holiday season, I have decided to co-sponsor the “Sisterhood Shabbat Kiddush Lunch” -- that's three special events. Did you forget that it's also my birthday?)
