Väsby New Gymnasium (VNG) is a brand new municipally financed senior high school (upper secondary school) with about 500 students, located in the city of Upplands Väsby. The school aims to offer the best upper secondary education. The students can choose between four different 3-year theoretical programs – Business Management and Economics Programme, Natural Science Programme, Social Science Programme and Technology Programme. All programs offer students qualification for further studies at the university level.
In 2010 the school has received the Pathfinder school award, given to schools that are working on an innovative way of integrating IT solutions in both teaching and learning, and as a good way to develop teaching methods for the future. Nowadays the school is a part of Microsoft's innovative school programs. To this end, the school is interested in developing and practicing new pedagogies to support diverse individual learning pathways in development of students' cross-curricular skills and to have clear indicators of this development, for all of its students and in all of the study programmes that it offers.
In the GRASS project, VNG participates by carrying out activities of fostering and assessing its students' soft skills as part of regular courses, using innovative ICT tools and services. The courses included in this study are Sociology and Swedish.
