American Voices B

The focus of this course is to develop a student’s ability to evaluate a work of literature.  Through examination of the elements of short story, poetry and drama the student should be able to analyze and critique different literature accurately and independently.  This course provides several opportunities for written, oral and visual expression.


 Essential Questions for the Course:
  1. What is the American Dream and how has it helped shape our society, and how does society in turn shape it?
  2.  How can reading American literature help us recognize and better understand cultural differences?
  3. How do different writers’ voices illustrate the complexity of the American Dream?
  4. How do we as writers utilize a process to clearly communicate an informed and developed thesis?
