  • an expected time to live as calculated on the basis of statistical probabilities

    liver cancer
  • malignant neoplastic disease of the liver usually occurring as a metastasis from another cancer; symptoms include loss of appetite and weakness and bloating and jaundice and upper abdominal discomfort
  • Liver cancer or hepatic cancer is properly considered to be a cancer which starts in the liver, as opposed to a cancer which originates in another organ and migrates to the liver, known as a liver metastasis.
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC, also called malignant hepatoma) is a primary malignancy (cancer) of the liver. Most cases of HCC are secondary to either a viral hepatitide infection (hepatitis B or C) or cirrhosis (alcoholism being the most common cause of hepatic cirrhosis).

LIFE Expectancy: It's Never Too Late to Change Your Game
LIFE Expectancy makes the case that many Americans do not yet fully appreciate the fact that the American economic game and the associated stakes have substantially changed over the past couple of years.

LIFE Expectancy tells the truth about the financial challenges facing Americans now and in the decades ahead and urges a new form of self-reliance as the only way to get through. The book demonstrates why it is mandatory to get started now and answers the question, "How can I be more proactive in the creation of the rest of my life?"

As the author says, "This book is for those who have decided that the continuation of the status quo cannot or will not be tolerated."

If you know it is time to become your own powerful agent of change in your own service, this is the book for you. Even if everything is going well for you at the moment, if you haven't changed your approach in a while that is a very good reason to do it.

Harvey
Harvey and I went to the vet this morning for his monthly steroid shot (and another bottle of his daily antibiotics.) It's been six months since he was diagnosed with breast cancer. He seems to be doing okay - still interested in breakfast and dinner and kibble between meals. He and Jeffy are still spending a lot of time together, grooming eachother and sleeping together. However, the vet said the tumor is now significantly bigger than it was at our visit last month, and said that it is probably spreading to other organs, the most likely being lungs, liver or kidneys, and she told me what to look for to tell if those organs are beginning to fail. The life expectancy for male cats with breast cancer is ususally between 6 and 12 months. So... At least I know what to look for. And for now, he really does seem fine. I've really appreciated all the concern expressed by many of you over the months since he was diagnosed, and thought you'd want to know. Many thanks from me and Harvey!

My mother has been diagnosed with a return of her breast cancer. This time in her liver. The prognosis is not good, the average life expectancy is two years. We don't plan to accept only another two years with her. Her faith is strong and I ask that you keep her in your prayers.

Life Expectancy
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Dean Koontz's Odd Apocalypse.

With his bestselling blend of nail-biting intensity, daring artistry, and storytelling magic, Dean Koontz returns with an emotional roller coaster of a tale filled with enough twists, turns, shocks, and surprises for ten ordinary novels. Here is the story of five days in the life of an ordinary man born to an extraordinary legacy—a story that will challenge the way you look at good and evil, life and death, and everything in between.

Jimmy Tock comes into the world on the very night his grandfather leaves it. As a violent storm rages outside the hospital, Rudy Tock spends long hours walking the corridors between the expectant fathers' waiting room and his dying father's bedside. It's a strange vigil made all the stranger when, at the very height of the storm's fury, Josef Tock suddenly sits up in bed and speaks coherently for the frist and last time since his stroke.

What he says before he dies is that there will be five dark days in the life of his grandson—five dates whose terrible events Jimmy will have to prepare himself to face. The first is to occur in his twentieth year; the second in his twent-third year; the third in his twenty-eighth; the fourth in his twenty-ninth; the fifth in his thirtieth.

Rudy is all too ready to discount his father's last words as a dying man's delusional rambling. But then he discovers that Josef also predicted the time of his grandson's birth to the minute, as well as his exact height and weight, and the fact that Jimmy would be born with syndactyly—the unexplained anomal of fused digits—on his left foot. Suddenly the old man's predictions take on a chilling significance.

What terrifying events await Jimmy on these five dark days? What nightmares will he face? What challenges must he survive? As the novel unfolds, picking up Jimmy's story at each of these crisis points, the path he must follow will defy every expectation. And with each crisis he faces, he will move closer to a fate he could never have imagined. For who Jimmy Tock is and what he must accomplish on the five days when his world turns is a mystery as dangerous as it is wondrous—a struggle against an evil so dark and pervasive, only the most extraordinary of human spirits can shine through.
