Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture or Facial Rejuvenation is the gentle insertion of tiny needles on the face and body to promote a natural, less aged appearance. Blood circulation and lymph drainage is stimulated as well as the production of collagen. This improves facial muscles and skin tone reducing fine lines, eye bags, dark circles and sagging jaw lines. This type of treatment is not new. The empresses of ancient China knew to use the powers of Chinese medicine to enhance their beauty. Cosmetic Acupuncture and Facial Rejuvenation has its origin in the treatments for the empresses and the royal concubines thousands of years ago.

What can I expect from my treatment?

T
he first session is used to access overall health to determine areas of imbalance. Once the treatment begins fine needles are inserted into the face and body. After the needles have been removed a soothing facial massage completes the treatment.

This protocol requires between 10 and 15 session. For the first three to four weeks the treatment needs to be carried out twice a week then weekly for the rest of the sessions. It is important to complete all of the sessions to achieve the full effects.

Many people see results after the first treatment however as acupuncture is cumulative the best results are often seen after the fifth to seventh treatment. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 12 weeks for the first year depending on the initial skin condition. The whole protocol should be carried out every five years.
(Scientific Explanation)

  • From a Western Medicine perspective, cosmetic acupuncture works because the needling causes micro-traumas in the skin. The body responds by increasing blood flow, the production of collagen and elastin.
  • From a Chinese Medicine perspective, 'Qi' energy and Blood are being brought to the face, 'Qi' producing an improved complexion and radiant glow. The use of whole body Acupuncture as part of the treatment aims to bring balance, improved health and wellness to the whole person. As part of the process nutrition may also be discussed. This aims to help maintain the best possible results and make more informed decisions regarding your health and well being.
