A close friend and colleague of LLLC is opening a cooperative Preschool for ages 2.5 and up starting this Fall 2013. Please check it out if you are waiting for you child to age into LLLC or have young siblings. We know Danielle Cassetta very well and highly recommend her new venture: the Acorn Glen Cooperative Preschool! Click the Image to be taken to her website!
I hope you all have enjoyed your summer as immensely as I have! We are gearing up for YEAR THREE of the Little Lake Learning Community - our best year yet! Our first day of class will be this Tuesday, September 4th, with slightly revised hours from 8:30am-3:00pm. Our Community Days are now on Fridays giving students 3-4 solid days of uninterrupted learning and community building with a field day wrapping up the week.
There are a few more opening for students so be sure to get your applications in as soon as possible to avoid missing important process information and beginning of the year bonding. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or concerns. I speak for all advisors when I say that we can't wait to see you all again and get this year in motion!
Hey Everyone! Be sure to check out the changes to the website. A few new videos have been added, the fees have been updated, who we are is almost updated, and we are looking for "artists in residence" - you can find details on the volunteers page!
Thanks! Hope to see you all at the Info Session at Nicola's on the 14th!
A HUGE Thank You to everyone for helping us through our first year as the Little Lake Learning Community! We had a great end-of-year ceremony and camp-out and are now gearing up for next year!
Come see us at our summer info sessions and movie nights, and check back frequently for exciting summer fun with Little Lake!
Hey all! In the last few weeks we have had a ton of fun exploring Magee Marsh in Ohio, going to the U of M Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, watching chickens hatch, and walking around downtown.
We also have the pleasure of announcing our new staff member, Jeff Brown. Check out his picture and Bio on the "Who We Are" section of the website. We are lucky to have him back after a brief hiatus from our founding group. Give him a warm welcome when you see him!
Also, we have combined our camps into one week-long day camp. Please register by June 1st to reserve your space!
We are on Spring Break here at LLLC. Our chicks hatched, we are going outside, and moods are lighter! Come in to any of our info sessions or tuesday tours to see what we have to offer for you and your family before summer gets here.
Don't forget to register for Summer Camps! The deadline is June 1st and spaces are filling fast!
Heck no! On top of our everyday awesomeness we are busy gearing up for another round of recruitment and marketing for the Little Lake Learning Community!
If you have ideas or helping hands we could use you! Stop by for a visit, some brochures, bumper stickers, and business cards, then spread the word about our lovely community!
Join us for our OPEN HOUSE November 11th at 6pm and a TOUR every Tuesday at 11am!
There was dancing, bidding, lip syncing and more! Thanks to generous donations from individuals, businesses and our community, and thanks to all the people who bid online and came out to support us, we raised just under $2,000! Pictures will be posted soon!
Check out the Pictures section to see a slide show of Work Day 2 photos! If you have a camera and are willing to share your pics of LLLC with us please email them to Littlelakefs@gmail.com and I'll get them in the slide show!
Don't forget about Work Day 2 this saturday at ECI from 9-1. We hope to see you there!
We have exciting news. We are changing our name from the Little Lake Free School to the Little Lake Learning Community.
The 501c3 process was getting very frustrating. Here is a review: we wanted to become a 501c3 but found that we needed to become incorporated first. In order to become an educational corporation, we needed to have 6 full time students enrolled, 50% of our capital and a certificate of occupancy. In order to get a certificate of occupancy, we needed to get architectural plans and mechanical, plumbing and electrical as-builts. Those plus the architectural fees plus the time it was going to take for Lansing Departments of Fire Services and Construction Code to review the plans, for us to make the changes and then for them to re-review the site meant it was making life very very complicated for us and all those steps would not have been done by the beginning of September.
So we switched the name from Free School to Learning Community and we are already, officially incorporated with the State. Now I am filling out the 501c3 application and will file that in the next few weeks.
Nothing will change with the school, the people, the space, the philosophy. But we wanted to let you know! If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please let us know.
We are in the process of converting all of our documents to the new name. Please be patient with our interchanging LLFS and LLLC for a while... Thanks!
