7/6 (M) - READ pages 76-77 of Excuses Begone by Wayne Dyer. (You can find a free pdf of this book on the web.) Dyer offers four ways to increase your awareness. Pick one. Send an email to lac@LiteracyActionCenter.org explaining how will you use this information today.
7/7 (T) - STORY PROBLEMS: Answer these questions: Scott got some coins from his wife on Monday. Tuesday, he spent 36 coins at the store. If he had 110 coins in all on Wednesday, how many coins did Scott get from his wife? On Thursday, Scott will give his daughter 50 coins. How many coins will he have left on Friday? What percent did Scott spend at the store? GRAPHS/QUESTIONING: Answer the questions about the graphs of four household power bills. (Questions and copies of the bills are in pdf files below.)
7/8 (W) - MEDIA: Complete the email task. (See Email lesson for July8.2015 directions.pdf below.]
7/9 (R) - ELECTRONICS: We have written directions for two setups: one bulb hooked to a battery and two bulbs hooked to a battery in a parallel circuit. Read the directions in the attached file: Light Bulb Set ups.July2015.pdf below. Which one works? (Which one gives you the most information and allows you to visualize best what you need to do to hook up the lights?) See pictures on facebook.
7/10 (F) - EMPLOYMENT: Discussion focuses on soft skills in the workplace. The first topic is about work ethic. ASTRONOMY: Read Mars Attack from Dec 2013 issue of Smithsonian. Q1: Describe the mission. Q2: What "should" NASA engineers look like? Compare/contrast with Steltzner's description. Q3: Explain "key figure behind" and "public face." Q4: Define sky crane. Explain its purpose. Q5: What does "rationally confident and emotionally terrified" mean? Have you ever felt this way? When? Q6: Mars is referred to as the "Bermuda triangle of space exploration." Explain. How does this make you feel as a future inhabitant of Mars?
