Here are a few of the ideas we will learn about this week:
Monday - closed for Memorial Day
Tuesday - Read "Our Sun- Site Selection & Resource Documentation.pdf" below. Today, we talk about collecting your information about your planet - how do you check the appropriateness of the web sites and how you document where your information comes from. Two most important questions to ask: Who owns the site? What are the owners' credentials? (Hint: Check on/read the "About Us" section of the website. You can typically find this button at the bottom of the website's page.
We also brainstormed the questions we wanted answered about your planet: How many moons? Order? Gravity? Size? Composition? Planet color? Life span of planet? Weather? How long to rotate Sun? Has this planet been explored? Does this planet have rings? If yes, what are the rings made of? Which direction does this planet rotate? See the handout (Planet Presentation Guide.may16.pdf) below for the actual questions and details about the presentations. Groups start work on their planets today.
Wednesday - The Four Agreements was about attention (p. 3) last week. Ruiz suggests that we are aware of multitudes of stimuli happening around us at any given time. However, attention is the defining factor that makes us actually focus and - through repetition - learn. We'll talk about how we've learned what we know. For example, how to you eat soup? Bowl under your chin? Spoon dipped into the soup and dragged towards you are away from you? This week we'll start on page 4 and examine the impact of our first language and how we developed our belief system.
Thursday - Today in the planet unit, we examine the process for creating a storyboard for pulling together the planet data each group will present. Groups use the example to begin their own story boarding.
Vocabulary: Examine the first of four types of context clues: examples.
Friday - Read chapter 7 of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea. Where do they go on the hunting trip? What are they hunting?
