Group: Phonics & Spelling. Building words through units of sounds. Results: Halloween -- Did grammar and math work as teams, then teams scored each others work, wrote a story together (see story below), played spooky phonics bingo, answered crossword puzzle, played "Apples to Apples," and read the spine-chilling story called "The Park Bench." Also set up science experiment for tomorrow.
Story: One spooky, slimy night, the skinny, scrawny, suitable, senior senor saw Scooby-do in a scary sarcophagus suspiciously situated in a Salt Lake City cemetary. Scooby-do, sneaking stealthily, snuck up behind the stupified statistic student 'side the mausoleum. Suddenly, the student soaked his slacks in shock from Scooby-do's surprise shriek.
The satisfied senor screamed, "Success! Snarly, snotty, sneaky, cemetary scum sram!"

Group: Food Science -- Read pages 51-52 of RL Wolke's What Einstein Told His Cook: Kitchen Science Explained. Meat experiment today -- which preparation method produces tender meat. Results: Without any discussion among experimenters as we "blindly" examined fork and chewing techniques, we all agreed that the eye of round steak, when prepared according to directions on the meat tenderizer, was far more tender (as tender as this meat can be) than the other 7 meat selections. We also agreed that the worst preparation was the control -- with no treatment at all!
