Mon 8/10 - Sentence Work: What is satire?
Book Group: READ pages 83-85 of Excuses Begone by Wayne Dyer. (You can find a free pdf of this book on the web.) r Start p.83 with title: “Alignment is awareness in action” Dyer lists 5 questions. What’s the purpose of asking yourself these questions? “Rather than asking for more,” what does Dyer say we need to focus on? Name 3 items on your list.
Tue 8/11 - Story problem: You are wrapping presents. You cut a ribbon every 40 inches, and you now have seven pieces. (1) There are 20 inches of ribbon left. How long was the ribbon at first? (2) What percentage of the ribbon do you have left?
Measurement: Ashley measured one light fixture in the classroom. She found that one fixture was 49 1/4 inches long and 16 1/4 inches wide. There are nine light fixtures in the classroom. What is the area of all the light fixtures? Set up an equation. Solve the problem.

Wed 8/12 - Sentence Work: Jonathan Swift wrote Gulliver's Travels. Find out two facts about his life. Read a piece of this book at Gutenberg.org? How old is this book?
Thu 8/13 - Electronics: Last week, we spend the entire class session trying to figure out how to construct a series circuit. So, today we will write directions for setting up a series circuit.
Supreme Court landmark cases: Today, we'll explore our question, "How do scientists know what dates and ages things are?" (We didn't do this last week )
Mind-Brain Connection: Have you ever noticed that you get some of your best ideas in the shower? Here's a video that explains this connection.
Fri 8/14 - Employment: Discussion will continue with #4 in the communication section in soft skills in the workplace.
Astronomy: Last week, we took a quiz about 7 of the biggest mysteries of Mars. This week we'll analyze the results and figure out which answers are correct.
