About me

I was born in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan. I received double B. S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from National Taiwan University in 2008, and Ph.D. degree in Communication Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2012. Since May 2012, I have been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, Academia Sinica, Taiwan.

When I was a graduate student, my major research topics were in terahertz and far infrared electromagnetic waves, microwave filters and RFIC design. Now I am a cross-discipline researcher aiming at music information retrieval (MIR). More specifically, I am interested in solving musical signal analysis problems by using techniques over digital signal processing, optimization, machine learning, time series analysis, dynamic systems, physics and mechanics. My research projects now include musical instrument recognition, singer identification, onset detection and multiple pitch estimation (MPE). Recently my published works are mostly about using phase information and sparse coding (SC) techniques for MIR problems.

Music is the flavor of my life. I can play the piano, trumpet, clarinet, and also guitar. I also like literature, especially poetry in Chinese or English. I have written poetry and been a lover of Taiwanese literature since I was a high-school student. I was a member in National Taiwan University Track-and-Field Team, and specialized in long-distance running.
