About Me

I am a PhD Candidate working with Dr. Lee Fuiman at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Texas.  My overarching goal is to understand how larval fishes survive to later life stages in a period where population mortality rates exceed 99.9%.  In particular, I am interested in how larvae interact with their environment during the settlement period.  As a model, I study the behavior of larval red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus, here on the south Texas coast.  I design laboratory and field experiments to test the role of developing sensory systems in locating suitable habitat, and determine how the importance of each sensory system changes on varying spatial scales.
