BIO 113 is a 16-week 1 hour class introducing basic concepts of nutrition.   You should expect to be spending 2-3 hours outside of class reading the textbook and other assignments.  In this class we discuss:

  • Anatomy and Function of the Gastrointestinal tract
  • FDA guidelines for healthy eating
  • How to interpret nutritional studies you see on the news or internet
  • How to correctly read and interpret food labels
  • Structures, dietary requirements, and sources of Carbohydrates, Proteins & Fats
  • Vitamin and Mineral requirements, deficencies and toxicities
  • Fluid Balance in our bodies and our diets
  • Exercise needs and requirements
