Please pause for a moment to reflect on your experience as a student. What do you remember about your favorite teacher, subject, or school activity? The staff at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy would venture to say that none of you thought of your favorite worksheet or a list of facts that you were required to memorize.
Lindsay Lane Christian Academy strives to be a school that goes beyond the worksheet. Our goal is to give our students the love of learning, critical thinking skills, and the ability to apply truth to life. A blended curriculum has been selected for Lindsay Lane Christian Academy. Our curriculum includes not only our publishing companies, but also projects, learning centers, field trips, hands-on activities, speakers, music, art, technology, literature, presentations, and experiments. Selecting publishing companies that align with our philosophy of learning was extremely important to our school.
Saxon Math was selected as part of our kindergarten-8th grade curriculum. Saxon Math is the nation’s best selling and most thoroughly researched skills-based mathematics program. Saxon’s innovative instructional approach breaks complex concepts into related increments, recognizing that smaller pieces of information are easier to teach and to learn. The instruction, practice, and assessment of those increments are systematically distributed across a grade level. This distributed approach ensures that students gain and retain critical thinking skills.
BJU Press was selected as our publishing company for Bible, language arts, science, and history. BJU Press’s goal is to reach the whole child, from heart to head, to prepare him to serve the Lord not in “the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7). We share in their belief that a student who loves to learn will be a student his whole life. Also, BJU Press helps to instill character in each student so that he is ready to meet the world. Not for the next test only, but for life (www.hightestscores.com). BJU Press realizes education is more than just making good grades—much more. It is learning to think for oneself, to use discernment, and to consider values when confronted with conflict. It is not only knowing facts and processes (which have their place), but also thinking critically and clearly expressing one’s ideas. BJU Press textbooks help develop these skills with inductive teaching, hands-on learning, and probing questions. Because BJU Press realizes the teacher is more than the textbook, it offers multiple approaches and activities in every lesson, allowing the teacher to address unique needs.
Our blended curriculum supports Lindsay Lane Christian Academy’s desire to give our students a love of learning, critical thinking skills, and the ability to apply truth to life. We would love for you to step off of the worksheet and join us!
