Fred W. Lindquist built the “Lindquist Apartments” in 1929. The building was designed in Mission/Spanish Revival style by well-known Portland architect Elmer E. Feig1, also known for designing the Norse Hall Building2 at NE 11th and Couch.
After decades of use as an apartment dwelling, the Lindquist Apartments were purchased by a developer and converted to condominiums in 2006. The building's ownership was officially turned over to the AOU Owners of Lindquist Condominium on May 2, 2007. Units may be individually rented at each owner’s discretion, creating a unique mix of owner- and tenant-occupancy in the building.
Many of the building’s original vintage details have been preserved through the years. Individual units boast leaded glass built-ins, faux fireplaces, beautiful plaster detailing, subway tile counters in the kitchen and vintage hexagonal tile in the bathrooms.
The building is three stories plus a basement and consists of 20 units, including studios and 1- & 2-bedroom units. The building sits on a large courtyard with a grand lobby and staircase inside the main entrance. The two wings extend to the east and south from the building’s center.
Located in the Kerns neighborhood, the Lindquist is within walking distance of Providore, Church Bar, Dove Vivi Pizza, Pambiche, Migration Brewing, The Ocean, Whole Foods, the Laurelhurst Theatre, and NE 28th's "Restaurant Row." It is across the street from The Zipper on 28th & Sandy. The Broadway Fred Meyer is located a few blocks North, just over the I-84 overpass on NE 28th.
