Year 6 - Miss Oakes

Dear Parents & Carers and all the Year Six children,

A very warm welcome to you all to our Year six page!

My name is Miss Oakes and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead and to getting to know everyone. This year, we will also have the privilege of working alongside both Mrs Phillips and Mrs Holmes.

Year six I am sure will be a special year for you all, as it not only marks the final step in your education and time spent here at Lindow, but also as we help prepare you for your journey onwards and upwards to high school.

Year six will be full of challenges, excitement and lots of opportunities right from the outset, which I know you will all work hard to succeed in, with the support of myself and Mrs Phillips, culminating with our end of year production and leavers’ assembly in the Summer term.

Being ambassadors for the Lindow attitude and continuing to work on our Lindow Life Skills, the year six children hold many different roles of responsibility and leadership, as the oldest children in the school. This will give everyone a chance to shine and showcase the very best of the Lindow caring attitude to your peers and the wider community around you. Each child will become a buddy to one of our Reception children and our Head Boy and Head Girl, supported by the four House Captains, representing Tatton, Dunham, Styal and Lyme, alongside our school councillors, will support in leading the whole school in our charity endeavours and house competitions. Sports is always a big part of Lindow life and we will also be calling upon our Sports Ambassadors to support the whole school in keeping their  minds and bodies active and well as part of our ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’.

Our aim is that these opportunities will help you all to leave us as caring, young individuals, whom are responsible citizens of Wilmslow, and confident and articulate learners, ready for the next stage of your education.

I have every confidence that all our Year six children at Lindow will strive to showcase these values at all opportunities to be great role models within our community.

Throughout the year, we have so many fantastic themes of learning and experiences planned.

Our topics will include:

Conflict & Resolution

Endangered or Empowered

Man vs. Giant

Survival of the Fittest

High Hopes & Daring Dreams

Be the Change You Want to See in the World

Please see our class DOJO page where photos of the year six children’s learning are shared, as are further updates and reminders about events upcoming at school.

Best wishes to you all,

Miss Oakes

Homework
All homework will be given out on a Friday and should be handed in by the following Wednesday to Miss Oakes. Children will be set weekly spelling homework (either to learn spellings from their Year 5/6 list, or to embed spelling patterns taught at school). In addition, the children will have a maths task each week and their ongoing times tables work. There is also an expectation that ALL children will be reading daily and quizzing regularly tosupport their reading and writing work in school.

A takeaway homework will be sent home per half term with optional activities for the children if they wish to research and enrich their learning about our topic: 'World Wars'.
