In 1976, a purpose built unit for hearing impaired children was added to our school. The unit has places for ten pupils and its staffing includes 1 full-time and 1 part time Teachers of the Deaf and qualified teaching assistants. It is the resource base for hearing impaired children in this part of Cheshire.
Our policy is to integrate these pupils into our regular classes so the children are first and foremost members of a mainstream class. In addition, they receive specialist teaching to develop natural language and support to access fully the normal curriculum.
The hearing impaired children and the additional staff are a great asset to our school and all the children benefit from our integrated approach. For more information please see our HIRB prospectus below.
