Understanding Lincoln from California

This website is designed to help teachers and students understand Abraham Lincoln from a California perspective.

The linked webpages focus on two different issues regarding California and Lincoln.

The first page, "Lincoln and the Mexican War" examines Lincoln's opposition to President Polk's justification for the US entry into the Mexican War.

The second page, "Slave State Without Slaves" looks at how California evolved from a strongly Southern leaning state to a state that firmly supported the Union in the Civil War.

Each of the pages has a:

video

blog post with visuals,

transcript of the video,

Google Slides presentation with the visuals

bibliographies for the information and the visuals.
