About Pressure Scale
Pressure Scale 1.0 is an upgrade of previous program CubicPressure, which is now obsolete.

System Prerequisite:
Java web start (Java SE JRE/SDK ) 5.0 or up is required. In Windows, you need to download it and install it. In Linux, you can install it from the repository in most cases. In Linux, you may also need to setup several files correctly (click here for furthur guidance).

Attention: You should use Java web start, NOT open-jdk. Using open-jdk does not affect results, but the graphical user interface in open-jdk is not as friendly. If your Firefox is set to use open-jdk by default, you can change it to Java web start by these means.

Input EoS Format
The default EoS file has the extension of '.eos'. To creat EoS files with this format, click "Create an EoS" in the program. Pressure Scale program also accepts .jcpds files as input. Click here to download several .eos files.

Volume Input File Format
The default input file format contains four columns: temperature T (unit: K), uncertainty of T (unit: K), unit cell volume V (unit: Å3), uncertainty of V (unit: Å3). Click here for a sample.

The program determines which column is which automatically depending on:
  • What is the crystal group (cubic or hexagonal or ...)
  • How many columns are in the file
  • Whether the check box of “1st column is temperature” is checked or not
  • In cases when the three standards above are not sufficient, the number(s) in the 1st row is(are) used to determine the file format. e.g. In the case of a two column file for cubic material, the columns can be interpreted as T & a , or, T & V. The program interprets it as T & a if the number in the 1st row and 2nd column is small.
In case this standard does not interpret the input file correctly, youcan set a dummy line in the 1st row.e.g. adding a line of “300      1” as the 1st linein a 2-column file will tell the program to interpret it as T& a file, while adding a line of “300      100“ as the 1st line in a 2-column file will tell the program tointerpret it as T & V file.

  • 2010-3-08: Pressure Scale 1.3 released. Updates:
    • Added new feature: allowing editing EoS.
    • Appearance change: windows are centered to the screen now.
    • Fixed the bug in EoS creating. This bug does not affect the calculated pressure or uncertainty.
    • Fixed the bug in pressure uncertainty calculation using high-temperature Birch-Murnaghan EoS. This bug only affects the calculated uncertainty while using high-temperature Birch-Murnaghan EoS. It does not affect the calculated value of pressure. It does not affect the calcuated pressure and uncertainty using other types of EoS's.
  • 2009-7-27: Pressure Scale 1.2 released. Updates:
    • Fixed the bug in Murnaghan type of EoS.
