2014-2015 Ligon Band Auditions

Ligon Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble Auditions for 2014-2015

 

When:

Auditions for the Wind Ensemble  and Jazz Band will be held from April 14-16th. Students may audition afterschool and during power hour Wednesday starting April 16th for those already in the group. I will post audition dates in the band room. Please see Ms. Todd for the audition schedule.

Where:

All Auditions will take place in the band room.

Who:

All students currently enrolled at Ligon are eligible to audition. Students who are transferring to Ligon for 7th and 8th grade may contact me for an audition.(even if it's after the regular audition day)

 

Requirements:

Scales-

All students will play all of the scales on the All District Scale Sheet. Articulations for all scales are T, S alternating and mallet players please use straight alternation.  All percussionist will need to play the Rudimental Snare Solo

Solo-

All Wind Instrumentalists should find The All County Solo already given out to many students this year or can be found by instrument under the All County Section on our Web Site. All percussionist should prepare the mallet, or snare or timpani solo from the list.

Sight Reading-

All wind and percussion instrumentalists will be asked to sight read a short selection.

Jazz Band Auditions are also listed on the web site and handed out in class. Be prepared to play with the recording. You will also play a blues scale a small sample of improve on Bb blues.  Percussionist auditioning for jazz band also should be prepared to play a steady groove in swing, Latin and rock styles during 3rd period before April 16th. Please see Ms. Todd for a day. Should take about 15 min. Jazz Band will be an extension of our top concert band at Ligon. (except musicians who do not play a wind instrument on guitar and bass only)

Please contact me if you have any questions about the auditions. I can provide a scale sheet for you and the solo if you need one. This is something you must do on your own. Remember I want to hear what you can do, I’m not looking to hear what you can’t.
