 Jamborees - National & World

The last National Jamboree was held from 7/28 - 7/28/17 at The Summit in Beckley, WV.

The Gulf Stream Council sent a contingent consisting of (70) Boy Scouts, Venturers and Leaders PLUS several Volunteer and Professional Scouters to staff the 2017 National Scout Jamboree!

About The National Scout Jamboree

Scouting’s flagship event is one-of-a-kind. It’s a gathering of approximately 45,000 Scouts, leaders, and staff that showcases everything that is great about the BSA and its members. Over the course of 10 summer days, once every four years, the Boy Scouts of America comes together. The result is the National Scout Jamboree.

High Adventure
The excitement of the jamboree isn’t limited to Scouts. The Summit will feature a large visitor area, where day-users can try out some of the activities that the Scouts are dialing in around other parts of the Summit. Also, 2013 was the first year that Venturers, a branch of the BSA that includes young women, and many international contingents, were part of the National Jamboree.

Whitewater rafting and kayaking, rock climbing and bouldering, and mountain biking are just a few of the activities offered at the Summit. There’s also skateboarding, BMX, shooting sports, and zip-line challenge courses. And that’s just the beginning!

A New Venue: The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve

In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River area in order to create the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The Summit is the new home of achievement, adventure, and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will welcome Scouts to a whole new jamboree experience in summer 2013.

"Unlock a New World"

The 2019 event is a team effort which will be hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts Canada and Asociacion de Scouts de Mexico.

The World Jamboree

The World Scout Jamboree is a Scouting jamboree of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, typically attended by several tens of thousands of Scouts from around the world, aged 14 to 17.

The first World Scout Jamboree was organized by The Boy Scout Association in London. With exceptions for the war years, it has been organized approximately every four years, in the more recent years by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), in different locations over the world. The 21st World Scout Jamboree in 2007 was held in Hylands Park, Essex, United Kingdom, and celebrated the Centenary of Scouting.

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree was at Rinkaby in Sweden. It opened on 27 July 2011 and ended 8 August 2011.

The 23rd World Scout Jamboree was held in Japan during the summer of 2015.
