LIFT: Learning Independence For Transition

Alhambra Unified School District's LIFT  program is designed for adults with special needs ages 18 to 22 years of age.  The LIFT program provides individualized support to enable students to transition from their roles as high school students to new roles as adults in the community.  LIFT is tailored to teach functional living skills, mobility safety, work experience and community based instruction.  Each LIFT student's individual transition goals are designed to advance him or her towards greater independence.

Staff focus on the range of individual needs of students within the program. In meeting the unique needs of each student, the program includes functional math, functional reading, social skills, domestic skills, healthy lifestyle, recreation and self-advocacy.

LIFT provides multiple learning opportunities for students to work towards increasing their own functional independence levels. These opportunities are provided through extended resources and linkages in the community and beyond, and enable transition students to become life-long learners who live, work and contribute within their community.
