What is Pinging?

Pinging lets services which specifically track and connect blogs know you’ve updated your blog so they can come and index your latest entry. Most pinging services ping many other services too.

Example: you have a great blog, you have added some "subscription services" so people can subscribe to your blog and hopefully you have submitted your blog to blog directories and search engines. Great.

When you write a new blog entry, the "subscription services" need to be Pinged so they can come and index your new work.

If you use blog software like WordPress, this process is almost automatic. However, if you don't have an automatic service (or even if you do) here are some alternative sites you can Ping.

  • I have an article on different Blog services here ... it can be quite complicated at first.

  • FEEDBURNER: Make sure that your FeedBurner Feed is being pinged sucessfully. Since Feedburner is so big at the moment other blog tracking services will update their service based on FeedBurner.

  • PPS: Note the important TIPS which moved to the bottom left side.

  • These links open a new window to allow you to check your site but still have this page available later. Still, I recommend you bookmark (Ctrl + D) this page so you can find it quickly.
