Polo & RidingPolo
The Royal Jordanian Polo Club is open to members of JAF. With annual membership and hire of ponies amounting to about JD300/year, the set-up is being very strongly subsidised. The club is situated off the Zirqa/Mafrak road about 10 minutes from Zirqa. The ground is grass (as opposed to the more usual sand) and has a good club house. There are about 15 active player members - a mixture of military and civilian. The standard is very much low-goal (i.e village cricket standard). There are 2 seasons/year: Feb-end Jun and Oct-Dec. Chukkas are played Sun/Tue/Thu with up to 4 being played each day. Although there is talk of lessons being available, it seems expected that newcomers will have some experience and their own gear. An ambulance is on stand-by whenever polo is played.
There is a very good stables near the go-karting arena and the golf course called Saifi Stables. Horses are well looked after and there are lessons for adults and children alike. They have an indoor arena as well as an outdoor school and there is the opportunity to improve skills as well as to go out for hacks. The stables are closed on Wednesdays.
