The home experience of married couples without children: A human ecology perspective escrito por Ramos, Carlos Ivan, Ph.D., The University of Utah, 1991, 163 páginas; AAT 9135356
Resumen
The purpose of this study was to examine the experience of the home of college-age married couples without children. The couples (n = 11) were residents of the University of Utah student apartments. Each participant filled out a leisure commitment questionnaire, a home management and gender roles questionnaire, participated in an experience sampling study for one week (n = 650), and all were interviewed to determine their perspective on the results. The quantitative data were analyzed using regression procedures.
Results of the analysis of quantitative data showed that husbands and wives differ in their experience of the home. Particularly, wives report significantly less distress across different home contexts. Husbands report relatively less interest while in the kitchen and they also report feeling surprise while engaging in hobbies.
Analysis of the qualitative data revealed that couples generally agree with the results, but wives disagree with three of the results, and husbands disagree with two of the results. Hypotheses were developed from the qualitative data set to be tested in future research with married couples. A model to examine leisure in the life course is proposed.
