Current Responsibilities
As Head of the Library's Instruction Department, I supervise the work of six departmental staff members, and supervised four teaching assistants. I evaluate the instruction activities of reference & instruction librarians.  I am actively involved in strategic planning, program development & management, grants, and related administrative activities for the Reference & Instruction division.  I provide teaching & learning leadership at the local and national levels, and am active on many local and national committees. I teach information literacy classes and am a guest lecturer in selected campus classes. I lead and coordinate the Library's many learning and teaching initiatives, including the following:
  • Library 160: Finding, Evaluating & Using Information - the Library's credit-bearing course required of all ISU undergraduates. Current enrollment is 6,000 students per year.  During academic year 2009-10, I helped the Dean of the Library lead a rigorous and successful review of Library 160 by meeting with all ISU undergraduate college curriculum committees, the Faculty Senate curriculum committee, and the Faculty Senate Academic Standards committee.
  • Course Reserves & Instruction LibGuides - the Library's innovative proposal to merge its electronic Reserves program with Library instruction.  Under my leadership, the Course Reserves began a pilot of video-streaming for distance ISU classes in Summer 2010.

  • Instruction Training & Assessment - teaching improvement initiatives for librarians and teaching assistants; outcomes-based instruction program assessment

  • Distance Learning - extending the Library's reach to distance learners.  Under my leadership, the Library's DL Committee secured Human Subjects clearance from ISU's Institutional Review Board to distribute a survey to all faculty teaching ISU distance courses.  This project was completed in Fall 2009 and currently is being developed into a research publication.

  • Library Seminar Series - the Library's faculty seminar series, now available online via videocasting and via iTunes.  Under my leadership, the Library offers synchronous webinars of its seminars, and began testing synchronous delivery into Second Life during Spring 2010.
