This week in Science we started learning about the Layers of the Earth.  There is a delicious and educational Milky Way Lab that helps the students visualize the layers of the Earth.  I would like to do this lab next Thursday or Friday, but we will need Fun Size Milky Ways.  If you are able to donate any Fun Size Milky Way bars to our classroom, we would greatly appreciate it!  Thank you for your help and support.  Have a great day!

Atlanta Reminders:

Dear 6th Grade Parent(s) and Guardian(s):

As we embark on our scheduled field trip to Atlanta on February 16, 2018, please acknowledge the following rules/guidelines:

  • Motorcoach arrives for boarding at 6:00 a.m. on the bus lot and will depart no later than 6:30 a.m.  It is your responsibility to get your child to the school for departure.  Please be on time as the bus will leave no later than 6:30 a.m.  Unfortunately, if your child misses the bus and is unable to attend the trip, no refunds will be given.

  • Upon arrival, students must check in with his/her chaperone for boarding instructions and seat assignments.

  • The expected time of arrival back to LMS at approximately 11:00 p.m. the same day.

  • GUM, SUNFLOWER SEEDS, CUPS and CANNED DRINKS are NOT Allowed.  Only beverages with screw top lids will be allowed. Snacks in resealable bags are preferred.  Please keep snacks and drinks to a minimum.

  • Students are responsible for their area (clean it up before exiting the bus).

  • LMS is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen property.

  • Damage to the motorcoach will be the responsibility of the offending party.

  • We will stop approximately every two hours for restroom breaks.

  • Chaperones will be seated throughout the motorcoach to provide balanced supervision.

  • Lunch and dinner are included in the cost of the trip.

  • Students will adhere to all School/BCPS rules.

  • Students will stay with their designated LMS employee/Chaperone. Accountability is a must.

  • Dress code will be enforced. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

  • Cell Phones will NOT be permitted on the field trip. Staff members will be unable to safely monitor appropriate cell phone use while on a moving bus, or while monitoring the safety of children at the various locations we will visit.

  • Parents will be provided with a Google Voice number that will directly reach your child’s chaperone in the event of an emergency.

  • We will be using the Remind app to send pictures and updates throughout the day. If your child wishes to have a picture of something, they simply have to ask their chaperone and he/she can post it onto the Remind app thread, or send it directly to you.  This app will also be used to communicate any change in time of arrival home due to traffic or weather.

  • Cameras (not cell phone cameras) are allowed.

  • No book bags are allowed, however a gym bag is permitted on the bus.

  • No horseplay.

  • There will be time to visit the gift shops after the tour ends, however students are encouraged not to bring large sums of money.  Chaperones will not be able to hold anything, including money, for children.

  • As stated in our original letter, any student earning two or more stays in ISS, or one instance of OSS may be removed from the trip at the discretion of the principal.  If a student is removed from the trip, he/she will receive a refund of all monies paid except the $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
