Mission Trips

‘LHUMC and Friends’ Annual Mission Team

Since 2006, this multi-church team coordinated by LHUMC has traveled to other states rebuild homes [and hope] for/with families in need; generally after disasters like Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast and, more recently, Hurricane Sandy which damaged 253,000 homes in New Jersey.

As the hands and feet of Christ, team members minister to families as their most important task while working on homes.  Over the years Baptists, Catholics, Independents, Lutherans, United Methodists and others have joined together to serve quickly realizing they were one in Christ, that they received more than they gave and that their personal Christian  journey found greater focus.  Each evening, the team reenergizes through sharing, prayer, message and music to prepare for the next day’s mission.

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

Then I said, “Here am I!  Send me.”  Isaiah 6:8

What are people saying about the ‘LHUMC and Friendsteam experience:

“Last week's vacation [mission trip] was like going to a ‘spa for the soul’.”

“I sit in church on Sundays with wonderful Christian people but I had no idea how inspiring and powerful it could be surrounded 24/7 for a week with such dedicated Christians.”

And from a homeowner we worked with whose home had been severely damaged by hurricane,  “Angels are the friends who show up when your wings are broken.”

You can be the encouraging presence of Christ to someone who needs to know others care and prove it by sharing God’s unconditional love through your actions.
