Email newsletter for AmericanGreetings.com
AmericanGreetings.com pioneered HTML newsletters. We sent out one a month for each brand (American Greetings, Blue Mountain and egreetings). Each newsletter had a theme (often, but not always, seasonal) and pointed to content we wanted to promote. We experimented to find the right balance between valuable content and third party ads and textlinks.
We tracked links to study which images or parts of the page uers were likely to click and we tested several subject lines each email campaign. At the time (2000-2001), a signficant percentage of users were without HTML email, so in each campaign rich text and plain text versions went out simultaneously.
