LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN MULTI-LEVEL TERRITORIAL GOVERNANCE SYSTEMS

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The Session seeks to explore recent trends and institutional innovations in multi-level territorial governance systems, with a focus on local government, and the new challenges with which local government is confronted, in different regions of the world. It includes theoretical and empirical contributions addressing, but not limited to, the following issues:
o Local government institutional reforms
o Decentralization and (re)Centralization trends
o Citizen participation in local government policy
o Municipal amalgamation
o Inter-municipal cooperation
o Governance of Metropolitan Areas
o Smart local governance: Big Data and AI
Country and cross-country studies, as well as individual and comparative studies of cities or municipalities are welcome. This can be either standard academic research or firsthand presentations by academics, planners or policy makers engaged in developing innovative modes of local and urban governance.
The Session is supported by the 'Local Government and Local Governance Research Network (LGLG-RN)'.
Abstracts by members of the 'Local Government and Local Governance Research Network (LGLG-RN)', as well as from anyone with a relevant contribution in this field, are welcome. The Session is an opportunity for those interested in these issues to share their work and experiences.
Please send a 200 words abstract to Carlos Nunes Silva (cnsulisboa@gmail.com) no later than October 25th November 12. The AAG abstract submission deadline is October 31 November 14 (new deadline).
