隱喻的理解: 大腦事件誘發電位之研究 (Processing Conventional Metaphor sentences, Novel Metaphor sentences and Anomalous Metaphor Sentences: An Event-Related Potential Study)

這個研究利用大腦事件誘發電位的技術來探討三種華隱喻之N400腦波表現。這三種隱喻包括:慣例隱喻、新奇隱喻、和破例隱喻。我們希望能瞭解母語使用者是否會使用概念隱喻中所隱藏的概念映照規則來處理不同的隱喻。我們預測,慣例隱喻會產生最小N400腦波振幅,新奇隱喻會產生中度的N400腦波振幅,破例隱喻會產生最大N400腦波振幅。 

實驗結果試圖回答以下的研究問題:

是否新奇隱喻 (novel metaphors) 雖然用法特殊,但是使用概念映照規則,所以理解上比破例隱喻(anomalous metaphors) 更容易理解? 


This study aims to use the event-related potential technique to examine the N400 components of three types of metaphors in Mandarin Chinese: conventional metaphors, novel metaphors and anomalous metaphors. We would like to know whether people use the knowledge of conceptual mappings underlying conceptual metaphors in the process of different metaphors. We predict that conventional metaphors elicit smallest amplitudes of N400 components, novel metaphors elicit the medium amplitudes of N400 components and the anomalous metaphors produce the largest amplitudes of N400 components.

The experimental results attempt to answer the following question:

Do people process novel metaphors with less effort than the anomalous metaphors because the novel ones follow conceptual mappings but the anomalous ones do not?
