Below is a schematic tree that shows the Big Y results posted on FTDNA's Big Y match pages for R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites and their closest matches:




Below is a schematic tree that shows the SNP test results received through December 2014 for R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites and their two closest matches who are not R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites.  The tree identifies SNPs at or below the level of Z2469/CTS6+, the level of SNPs now believed to identify R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites and their closest match.  (YFull's experimental tree for Y-DNA haplogroup R also places some of these men on the tree, identifying some of the SNPs at each level.

A La Carte SNP Test Results for R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites

As of July 29, 2014, the following a la carte SNP test results have been received for R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites. Click here for identification of the tested men and their characteristic marker values.

Y2619: All R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites who have tested Y2619 are Y2619+. It appears likely that all - or virtually all - R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites are Y2619+.

Y2630: R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites are split between Y2630+ and Y2630-.  Men who are Y2630+ are typically near the R1a1a Ashkenazi Levite mode and generally have the modal values DYS537=12 and DYS650=20. Men who are Y2630- are typically far from the R1a1a Ashkenazi Levite mode and generally have the non-modal values DYS537=11 and DYS650=19.

YP264: R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites who are Y2630+ are split between YP264+ and YP264-.  The R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites who have DYS537=12, DYS650=20, and DYS495=16, a pattern of STRs currently believed to identify the Horowitz rabbinical family, are YP264+. Two Y2630+ R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites who have DYS537=12, DYS650=20, and DYS495=17 are YP264+. The majority of R1a1a Ashkenazi Levites who have DYS537=12, DYS650=20, and DYS495=17 are YP264-. It therefore appears that: (1) YP264 is characteristic of the Horowitz rabbinical family; (2) the mutation to YP264+ likely pre-dated the mutation from DYS495=17 to DYS495=16; and (3) the mutations to YP264+ and DYS495=16 may pre-date or post-date by one or two centuries the move of that family's founder to Horovice, near Prague, in the 1470s. (Both YSEQ and YFull believe that a la carte (Sanger) testing for YP264 is unreliable because that the Y and X chromosome are very difficult to distinguish at that locus. As a result, YSEQ is offering YP265 - not YP264 - for a la carte testing. FTDNA is aware of this issue and believes that its a la carte testing accurately reports results for YP264.)
