To quote one of my graduate school professors: "A person's Worldview is like sand at a picnic; it gets into everything." In other words, everyone has one or more set of beliefs they use to make sense of their world and to govern their actions.
Obviously I do NOT require persons to be Christian (or convert to Christianity) in order to engage my psychological services.
However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I would be remiss not to emphasize that I am a follower of Christ and do hold a Conservative Biblical Christian Worldview. That Worldview has been developed, molded, and refined for more than 30 years (and will continue to be so) through: Discipleship (by Pastors/Teachers and my other brothers and sisters in Christ); the work of the Holy Spirit in my life; and continued study of God’s Living Word (the sixty-six canonized books of the Old and New Testament). Another aspect of my Worldview is the belief that smaller “truths” can be found in other fields of study as long as those ideas are not in contrast to the Truths inherent in the Biblical record.
GENESIS 32:1-2
Jacob went on his way as well. As he went, messengers of God met him along the way. When Jacob saw them, he acknowledged that this was God's camp, so he named that place Mahanaim, which means "two camps."
I chose the name Mahanaim based upon a sermon I heard on this passage from Genesis. The Hebrew word means "two camps" or "two worlds." The Bible teacher explained that the passage was about Jacob giving homage to God through his recognition of both the tangible (physical) world and the intangible (spiritual) world. The sermon, and the name, settled in my mind and heart. I knew then that if I were ever to open another private Psychology practice, I would name it Mahanaim.
This broken and sinful world can be full of so much sorrow, pain, and suffering. I believe true joy, Biblical Joy, is found only when we keep our eyes and thoughts upon Jesus, build our lives upon a foundation of Biblical Truth, and remember His promises for our future; especially the promises to believers about our future beyond this present life. Until He takes us Home, It is my calling and my honor to walk alongside my fellow believers as we heed Jesus' invitation to "follow Me." In my therapy work, I seek the guidance and power of The Holy Spirit to support the positive life-goals of my clients.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Certified Child Mental Health Specialist
My Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology was completed at Whitworth University (Spokane, WA, 1995). I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (1998) and a Doctor of Psychology (2001) from the American Psychological Association Accredited Graduate School of Clinical Psychology at George Fox University (Newberg, OR).
During both my undergraduate and graduate educational experiences, I was trained and supervised in the provision of direct therapy services to clients, as well as psychological testing. These happened in a variety of settings including: WoodlandPark Hospital—partial hospitalization and inpatient units (Portland, OR), Yamhill County Family and Youth Services (McMinnville, OR), Rainbow Family Services (McMinnville, OR), and Airway Heights Corrections Center (Airway Heights, WA).
After finishing my doctoral coursework, I worked on my Doctoral Dissertation while completing a one-year Pre-Doctoral Internship at the West Denver Child and Family Services office of the Mental Health Corporation of Denver (Denver, CO; August 2000 to August 2001). After defending my Dissertation and obtaining my Doctorate, I completed a two-year Post-Doctoral Internship with Northwest Psychiatric Associates, P.A. and North Idaho Behavioral HealthPsychiatric Hospital (both in Coeur d’Alene, ID; September 2001 to October 2003). During both my Pre-and-Post Doctoral supervised experiences I provided therapy for youth, adults, and families, as well as comprehensive psychological assessment of children, adolescents, and young adults.
I have been licensed as a Psychologist in Washington State since 2003 (#PY00002703). To gain that license I completed my Doctoral Degree, passed the written National Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), completed the required number of supervised practice hours, and passed the Washington State Oral Psychology Boards. In order to maintain my Psychology licensure I engage in at least 20 hours of continuing education credits per year.
From January 2004 to December 2009 I owned and operated Lighthouse Counseling & Psychological Services, PLLC in Spokane, WA. During my time there I provided mental health treatment for people aged 4 to 60. In addition, I provided comprehensive psychological assessments for youth referred by other community sources.
I was employed from October of 2009 to June of 2014 at NorthEast Washington Alliance Counseling Services (NEW Alliance). NEW Alliance provides Community Mental Health Services for Stevens, Lincoln, and Ferry Counties, in Washington. While there, I served in the capacity of Youth Services Supervisor and Staff Psychologist. My duties included direct service to clients, supervision of Masters-level therapists, participation in the Management Team, and Psychological Testing/Interpretation/Report Writing for the purpose of facilitating clients’ treatment. While at NEW Alliance, I was certified by the State of Washington’s Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery as a Child Mental Health Specialist.
I have worked with people on a variety of issues including: depression, grief, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, mood disturbance, reactive attachment, post-traumatic stress, social problems, sibling relations, parenting, blended-families, co-dependency, anger, attention deficits, hyperactivity, and disruptive behaviors.
In addition to my Biblical worldview, I incorporate a number of psychological theoretical perspectives and intervention methods into my treatment process. These include: Object Relations; Attachment Theory ; Human Development; Reality Therapy; Emotional Intelligence; Existential Psychology; Psychobiology; Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; Collaborative and Proactive Solutions; and body-focused treatments like Mindfulness and BrainSpotting.
When warranted, I refer clients to other health care providers (for things like: medical issues, medication management, chemical dependency, learning problems, neuropsychological testing, speech therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, sleep studies, and etc.).
