Your Financial Contribution - Go Fund Me- helpful idea

We know that paying your band contribution can be a challenge.  Some of our students have used "Go Fund Me" to seek donations from family and friends.  Here's a link to see how the site works: Go Fund Me Introduction

Your student might approach fundraising as a "march-a-thon". During marching season, students are easily putting in 200 hours of band time, through rehearsals and performances. Try asking for sponsors. A nickel an hour at 200 hours would bring in $10 per person; a dime would bring in $20. A person could choose the amount to donate. This would be a way for friends and family members to reward your student without having any overhead or product to worry about.

Here is a template of a letter you might use when seeking sponsors: (Don't forget to personalize it!)

Dear Family and Friends,

As you may know, I am a student in the Lemoore High School Tiger Pride Marching Band and Colorguard. Our show this year is called Laws of Motion.

The LHS band is returning after our most successful season ever in 2013, where we placed 12th in the Western Band Association Finals. We are hoping to continue to improve during this 2014-2015 season.

Did you know that band makes a difference? Students who participate in band for at least two years score higher on the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test used for college admissions): 20 points on the SAT Verbal and 25 points higher on the SAT Math and gains increase with each additional year of band.

I am trying to raise funds to support our band program. During the marching season this year, I will be putting in approximately 200 hours of time, both with rehearsals and performances, and I am looking for sponsors.

Would you please support me by making a per hour pledge or a flat donation of any amount? Here are examples of pledge per hour calculations for 200 hours of band participation:

$.05 per hour = $10

$.10 per hour = $20

$.25 per hour = $50

Our goal is $300 per marching band member.

I hope you will support me with a pledge or donation. Please let me know by calling me @ _______________ or replying via e-mail. You can also support me through my Go Fund Me site: ________________________________.

Again, your pledge or a flat donation of any amount is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration,
