Great Eastern Navigators invite you to participate in the 2011 Leinster Championships which will take place on Sunday 3rd April on the southern slopes of Glencree valley in north County Wicklow. This is one of the glaciated valleys that run in an east/west direction along the eastern side of the Wicklow Mountains.
The location, which was last used for orienteering in 1993, has been remapped by Pat Healy of Cut Bush Mapping and covers a variety of terrain types including mixed forest and open mountainside. The area encompasses Crone wood (possibly derived from Cruasdhne or hard ground) and the summit of Maulin at 570m(Málainn, meaning "High or sloping ground"). The forest cover is a mix of Birch, Scots pine, Corsican pine, Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, Mountain Ash, Oak and Larch with bilberry as the undergrowth in some areas. The forest is home to a variety of animals including deer, foxes, badgers and red squirrels.
Entries are open until Monday 14th March with reduced fees available until Monday 7th March. Please enter online where possible.
