PROBLEM: UNICEF reports that 2 children per minute are trafficked for sexual exploitation in the world! Each year 100,000 teens in the United States fall victim to a sex industry that takes advantage of minors under the age of 18. Locally, the FBI has identified the San Diego region as a “High Intensity Child Prostitution Area.”
CAUSE: Lack of awareness - by teens and parents - of the recruitment tactics of pimps and gangs who are luring, grooming and indoctrinating our children into a lifestyle they do not truly choose.
SOLUTION: A short film that will be shown in middle schools, high schools and community forums throughout San Diego and then the nation! Equip parent and child with what they need to protect themselves.
ABOUT THE FILM
“Indoctrinated: The Grooming of Our Children Into Prostitution” - a 33-minute documentary sponsored by the San Diego County Office of Education – uncovers the scope and destructive nature of child sex trafficking and teaches parents and youth ways to protect the girls and the community. The film does so by revealing the tactics used by pimps and gangs to recruit, groom, psychologically coerce and indoctrinate victims into a life of sexual exploitation and violence … a life that no one would ever choose.
"Indoctrinated" is a documentary film aimed at preventing child sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) in San Diego County. The film features powerful stories from youth survivors of sex trafficking and their parents, as well as interviews with victim service providers, law enforcement, and federal and local prosecutors.
“Indoctrinated" illustrates the reality behind the commercial sexual exploitation of youth in San Diego County. With a focus on stories from previously prostituted youth, the film provides audiences with a true understanding of the impact on communities, families, and victims. Indoctrinated also features several interviews from local service providers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and parents. Legacy Productions has partnered with the San Diego County Office of Education and the ACTION Network to produce the film and develop an accompanying study guide. It is our intent to provide school staff, community providers, youth, and parents with the DVD and study guide as an educational tool, which can be made part of existing prevention services. The film will be screened by accredited facilitators at parent/child forums, at middle-school assemblies, and governmental agencies, with the knowing that this awareness will bring a change - as it curbs and then eliminates the reality of our children being lured, enticed or kidnapped and then prostituted right here on our own streets.
The San Diego Union Tribune printed a great article about the screening of the film. See it HERE
