Working in Teams

To: Advisory Board Members
From: Dottie Sunio, Advisory consultant
Subject: team responsibilities

Review the Advisory Board Responsibilitieswhich you signed and agreed upon when you volunteered.

As an advisory board member, we have some very important tasks for you to perform this semester.  The Board needs to work together as a team in all endeavours. Teamwork is essential to the success of our school and the students. Before your team begins meeting, and whenever you encounter problems within your team, review these resources on how to improve your team skills.

Working in Teams and Groupwork (http://openlearn.open.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=2338) is a good resource on describe the main features of working in teams, the processes that affect team effectiveness, the main features of project management, and theories on effective leadership.

Fastfacts: Collaborative Group Work (http://www.lib.uoguelph.ca/assistance/learning_services/handouts/group_work.cfm) provides a practical approach with solutions to challenges commonly encountered by teams.

Effective Meetings (http://www.meetingwizard.org/meetings/effective-meetings.cfm) is a good resource on improving the effectiveness and quality of your team meetings. I suggest you adopt some of these when you hold your own team meetings.

If you encounter team conflicts and are unable to resolve the conflicts on your own, as the Board Advisory consultant, I will help to mediate and help you to find ways to effectively work together so we can further the work at Leeward Elementary School
