Standard II update

The Standard II Committee is composed of three subcommittees.  Standard IIA: Instructional Programs is co-chaired by Jeff Judd and Susan Wood.  Standard IIB: Student Support Services is co-chaired by Sandy Hoshino and Lexer Chou. Standard IIC: Library and Learning Support Services is co-chaired by Beth Kupper-Herr and Junie Hayashi.  All together the Standard II Committee has 53 members! 

 

Each subcommittee has established a process for the members to familiarize themselves with their standard, review sample self-evaluations from other campuses, and submit their write-up in a template format.  Each subcommittee has their own timeline with deadlines for a first draft that range from February 18, 2011 to later in the semester.  Early submittals for drafts are being requested so the subcommittee co-chairs can review and ask for additional information before the end of the semester.

Standard 1 Update

The Standard I Team had a whole group committee meeting on Oct 14, 2010 (see minutes). The
committee divided into 4 subgroups:


1. Standard 1A – Wanda Miyamoto & Jennie Thompson & Brittany Carter
2. Standard 1B (1 & 2) – Lexer Chou & Charlene Mimuro
3. Standard 1B (3 &6) – Blanca Polo & Greg Walker & Antonia Viela
4. Standard 1B (4,5 &7) – Chris Manaseri & Jake Darakjian

Each subgroup has completed the following so far:

1. Familiarized themselves with Standard I overall
2. Familiarized themselves with their own section
3. Read the samples of their section from the three self studies (KCC, Citrus, & Santa Rosa JC)
4. Completed the Google/Word template with supporting information from the three self
studies. Identified common threads amongst the three self studies using the “Guide to
Evaluating Institutions” Questions as a reference.

Each subgroup is working on: Identifying and gathering evidence for Leeward CC in the areas identified
by the common threads and questions. This will be completed by Feb 11, 2011. After that, the
subgroups will begin to write their drafts. A first draft is expected by the end of March 2011.

Standard IV

The Standard IV Committee started the New Year with a meeting on January 7.  The committee members were provided with a folder of materials including their assigned standard section, reviewed the resources in Laulima, and received training on using the Standard IV Google docs forms from Brent Hirata.

The subcommittees, led by Ian Riseley and Roy Kamida, will conduct meetings in late January.  All members will submit Draft 1 by March 28 and Draft 2 by May 2.  After each draft, the entire Standard IV Committee will review the documents and make recommendations.

The UHCC system Standard IV meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 24, from 1-3 p.m. at the Dole Street offices.  Roy Kamida and Kay Ono will attend the meeting on behalf of the committee.  The Standard IV chair and subcommittee chairs appreciate the members and their dedication to the self-evaluation accreditation process.

We added a column to the Timeline. Several items on the list span a range of months. With the new column, we'll be able to add short comments to let you know how we're progressing!

Details on the timeline have been added to the site. Most of the dates are in general terms, like early April 2011. As the process unfolds, each specific item will have a firm deadline. Happy to see we already have a few checked off as completed!

Laying the foundation

Members of the Steering Committee met with Mike Pecsok on Friday, November 12 to get some insights from his recent site visit as a Team Member. We decided to create two different web sites for our accreditation: one will be during the process of the Self Evaluation and the other will be the "final product," our Self Evaluation Report. Donna, Barbara and I selected google sites for the website on the process. We're in the final stages of organizing the structure and posting the content. This site will enable the campus and community to be active participants in the process, as well as enabling committee members to exchange information.
