JR Wells

JR Wells is beginning his third year coaching baseball at Lee’s Summit West.  He spent his first seven years teaching and coaching at William Chrisman High School in Independence Missouri.  Wells’ coached baseball at the freshman level his first two years, followed by a year as the varsity assistant, then spent his last four years as the Bears head varsity coach.


JR is originally from Independence, where he graduated from William Chrisman High School in 2002.  He was a standout pitcher and outfielder for the Bears during his time at Chrisman, as he lettered in baseball and basketball for 3 years in each.  After two years in college trying to become a sports broadcaster, Wells’ realized his true passion was in the field of teaching and coaching.  Wells’ earned his bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the field of social studies.  He then went on to complete his Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Central Missouri.  


JR is married, his wife Heather (who is a former Lee’s Summit Tiger) and two boys, Brayden (5) and Hudson (2), currently reside in Lee’s Summit.
