There is = var

There isn't = yok

 

Examples:

  • Masanın altında bir fare var = there is a mouse under the table
  • Bugün yağmur yok = there isn't rain today

 

Yok also has a second meaning: “no” (informal).

 

Example: Yok, gelmiyorum: no, i'm not coming.
